Beef Shares from Beautiful & Wild Pastures – Yours to Enjoy

What We Offer

From a quarter to a whole cow, raised right here on our family farm in Cape Breton, we make it easy to fill your freezer with premium local beef.

Buying a beef share isn’t the same as buying meat from a store. With our Co-Ownership Model, you’re actually purchasing a share of a live animal. While it’s being raised on our Cape Breton pastures, it’s partly yours — and we’ll share updates along the way. When it’s time for processing, your share transforms into a custom box of beef, ready for your freezer.

Who We Are

Our Roots

Tradition Lives Here – Welcome to The Gillis Farm in Margaree Forks, NS, where our family has been since 1877. We proudly continue the farming tradition, deeply rooted in our community. With dedication to our land and animals, we ensure they thrive, producing exceptional food we are proud to share.   With deep roots in the past and a clear vision for the future, the farm is dedicated to a uniquely Cape Breton way of life committed to making the land and its resources the best they can be.

Our Goal

Our aim with our farming practices is to harmonize with the land. By using organic, natural fertilizers and avoiding harsh chemicals, we preserve the vital nutrients that regenerate our pastures and, in turn, benefit our cattle. These practices create the most natural conditions, allowing cattle to graze freely, much like they would in the wild.

The Bearded Butcher’s video:

Seth and Scott, The Bearded Butchers, have generously permitted us to share this video on our site – “A Visual Guide to the Cuts of a Cow: Where Every Beef Cut Comes From”

It’s a great way to help learn about the different cuts of beef.  Seth and Scott Perkins, aka the Bearded Butchers, run a second-generation butcher shop and know their stuff.  These individuals are highly experienced and exceptionally skilled at their craft.

As we go along with our beef share journey, I’m excited to add more content from our awesome butchers!
